Writing Routines!

We have spent the week concentrating on Reading!

Now we are shifting and we will establish more writing routines.

Here is a link to writing prompts

Together we will create a time line on writing days for in class and we will also make the due dates together.

I would like two significant writing pieces per month.

Let's figure that out in real time today...

Grade 10 Writing Prompts

You will have choose on what you want to write about.  Some may find this very freeing and other may find this complex and uncomfortable.  You need to come prepared to work; which means organizing, writing or conferencing with me.

You can also communicate via Remind; ask questions, work out ideas, use me as a sounding board.

The Umbrella Idea

How do I fit into the system?

How are you smart?

Today we discussed in small groups how each of us is smart.

We Created a Table Map as a group! On each map, students recorded with symbols their three top smart categories.

Nature Smart - flower, tree, leaf
Bodily-Kinesthetic - person walking, biking, jumping-jack
Interpersonal - two hands shaking
Intrapersonal - a heart
Logical-Mathematical - a chess piece
Musical - musical notes
Verbal-Linguistic - a conversation bubble
Visual-Spatial - an eye

Then we started reading the book:
We skimmed it (1 minute)
Made observations in a class discussion

Here is a typical classroom photo from 1966!

Class discussion/brainstorm:
How are we the same?
How are we different?

Let's imagine what life would be like living in the 1960's?

Would school take your strengths into consideration in the 1960's?

Generation Like

Over the past two days, the class has watched a PBS documentary

Generation Like
Click the link above to watch the documentary.  You do not have to subscribe, just click the X in the upper right hand corner, then there is an advertisement, after which the documentary begins.

While watching make notes that can help you answer this question:

Does Social Media Empower or Exploit teens?
(In your journals please)

There is a link on the Right Side of this Blog that directs you to the question also.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Note: You will need your independent reading novels for next week.

Today was about me getting to know you better.

I distributed Journals and I have asked you to start thinking about symbols or images that best describe who you are and what you like.

We also looked at the course outline (you can find a link on this blog to an electronic copy)
Today we looked at the course outline and you highlighted what was confusing or what you disliked.

Name Game for last 10 minutes of class.

Needs Inventory - Please have this completed for tomorrow so that we can work on the next stage.
